Multimedia art (digital audio-visual), synthesis (how synthesizers work), and pop music production. I am proficient in, and teach the following softwares:
Visual Software:
Art Programming:
Audio Software/Technology:
Songwriting/Audiovisual Composition & Practice:
There are plenty of technical tutorials for software available online, but fewer resources instructing how to put these tools together to make “art.” I am extremely passionate about the things I teach (synthesizers, technology, code) and I want to help people use all the amazing tools available to them to do something cool.
I’ve been a practicing media artist since 2013. I attended conservatory, where I majored in experimental audiovisual art. After graduating, I realized that I needed to learn how to make art that connected with people (not just other experimental artists) and taught myself how to write and produce pop music. I’m now synthesizing the two (academic Modernist art and pop internet culture) in my current practice, which involves making and selling small audiovisual pieces to an online community. Throughout this journey I’ve been guided by two questions: What technical skills do I need to learn to execute my ideas, and how do I frame them such that an audience can connect with them. Answering these questions has resulted in an art career full of learning, self-examination, and evolution.
I want to hear about your life and what you’re feeling and thinking about, since this is the basis of your art practice. I’ll help you find the tools to do the things you want to do (i.e. if you want to make deep fried memes, I’ll help you do that), show you some things I think are cool that you might not know about, and help you assemble your thoughts into something cohesive. Style isn’t as important to me as what you’re thinking, so I won’t force any particular aesthetic on you. In my opinion, the basis of good art is a balance of rigor and play so we will focus on having fun while learning to execute art well.
I’ve had the fortune to have a number of very good teachers in my life who both pushed me and gave me confidence to create, and I wish to impart that experience to others.
Life. The human experience is so wacky and varied and there is so much material (on the internet and IRL) through which we can explore the human condition. Finding things that are funny, finding things that are strange, finding things that are beautiful. Discussing these things with other people.
