I teach Italian.
The culture of Italy is a very unique and special presence in our world. It has permeated so many aspects of our own culture here in the United States: food, art, poetry, music, cinema, and so much more. To be able to interact with Italian culture on the linguistic level is a gift, and offers a creative and personal expansion like no other. I want to give you the tools to be able to do that and experience the beauty of that yourself!
My grandparents are Italian immigrants from a city near Bari, in the south of Italy, so I was raised with heavy Italian influence in my life. When I was a baby, my mom spoke to me in Italian and my father in English, so I learned both languages in tandem with one another. I continued on to study Italian in high school and college so I could further engage with Italian art & music, being an opera singer and admirer myself. There is nothing more I love to do than to spread the history and love that comes with Italian culture to those around me.
As a speaker of both English and Italian, I know the challenges associated with learning Italian from the standpoint of an English speaker. In my opinion, there is no better way to learn the language than to be immersed in the culture of it as much as possible. As much as we will learn the foundation of the language, the grammar, and how it is constructed, there will always be a huge emphasis on integrating that knowledge with classical & modern Italian music, art, and history, so that you can approach a wide variety of conversational scenarios when you interact with Italians.
I am very passionate about traveling. Whether that be the outdoors in national parks around the US or elsewhere, or getting to immerse myself in new cities/cultures, I love to explore… and eat. (Food is the best part of traveling, in my opinion!)
