What do you teach?

I specialize in teaching the art of natural dyeing and fashion design, enabling students to integrate sustainable and zero-waste practices into their creative process. By efficiently utilizing every material and resource, students harness the beauty of natural dyes to craft unique and vibrant garments while ensuring environmental consciousness throughout the design journey.

What makes you want to share your skills and knowledge?

Multiple factors drive the desire to share my skills and knowledge. Firstly, I aim to contribute to prolonging the lifespan of clothes, promoting sustainability, and reducing waste in fashion. Additionally, witnessing my students express their creativity, explore a new art medium through natural dyeing, and see the joy and pride they experience when showcasing their unique creations fuels my passion for teaching.

What is your experience in your craft and how are you evolving?

I have continuously evolved and grown in my craG with seven years of experience in natural dyeing and sixteen years in sewing and design. Throughout my journey, I have embraced a spirit of discovery, constantly exploring new techniques, researching innovative approaches, and experimenting with different materials. This ongoing exploration has expanded my knowledge and fueled my creativity by consistently seeking new sources of inspiration.

What is your style of teaching?

My teaching style is highly adaptable and customizable to meet the unique needs of each student. I offer instruction in both Spanish and English, ensuring effective communication and understanding. I provide hands-on demonstrations, personalized one-on-one sessions, and visual aids to enhance their learning experience and facilitate their comprehension of the techniques.

What keeps you creatively inspired?

For me, creative inspiration stems from the diverse world of fibers, the beauty of nature, and the seemingly endless color possibilities derived from plants, insects, and even food waste.

I found the natural dye workshop to be completely fascinating! I’ve actually attended a few of Cayetano’s workshops now and every one has felt fresh and unique as it is relatively impossible to make the same item twice. Cayetano starts each class with an exploration of color source for each of the natural dyes included, followed with step by step instructions. He is always clear and informative but more importantly, he is patient and kind, something I really appreciated as I personally came in with zero experience. I can not rave enough about these workshops; you always leave with something pretty, everything’s responsibly sourced, everything’s unique, and you’re supporting a POC business. 10/10.
