Meet the Instructor

What do you teach?

Drum Set - Rock, Pop, Jazz, Hip-Hop as well as snare drum fundamentals.

Production - Ableton & ProTools - Learning software, production tools and concepts (EQ, Compression, etc.) and the musical skills to allow you to produce your own music (ie. basic theory, ear training, song form, song analysis, etc).

What makes you want to share your skills and knowledge?

I find joy in sharing my passion for music with others.

What is your experience in your craft and how are you evolving?

I've been teaching for over 5 years now. Beyond teaching, I work as a touring/session drummer and producer/composer. As a drummer, I've most recently worked in the studio and on tour with Chicano Batman, and also with their solo projects Bardo & E Arenas. I produce music under the moniker Mad Bad World and for my other band Gold Koa. I also produce for other artists, and have produced/composed music for TV, virtual reality, and video games as well. I work mostly with Ableton and Protools but can navigate Logic as well. These days I'm most focused on my own project, Mad Bad World, and recently released my debut album "Mercy Memory" on all streaming platforms.

What’s your style of teaching?

Leave room for improvisation. Learning by ear just as much as by reading. Allow students to discover what works and then analyze why, rather than telling them what to do or learn with no further explanation. Always connect learning to real world applications (songs, live show, band dynamics, etc); giving context to the material helps the student immediately apply it. Always keep it positive, light, and feeling like we're moving forward.

What keeps you creatively inspired?

All forms of art, my peers, and my students.
